Told today that Dallas has held some early stage talks with Dereck Lively II on a possible contract extension. Lively, Via @TheSteinLine on X

What happened: The 22-year-old is eligible for a new deal through the day before Opening Night. He appeared in seven games in 2025-26 before undergoing foot surgery.

Why it matters: A deal would fix Lively's long-term cost before the 2026-27 season begins. His availability remains a central roster variable after a season cut short by surgery.

By the numbers: Lively averaged 4.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 16.4 minutes across seven games in 2025-26.

What to watch: Training camp will provide the next checkpoint on Lively's recovery and readiness for 2026-27.
