What happened: Lionel Messi said Lamine Yamal is the player from the new generation who most reminds him of himself at the start of his career. He also called Yamal the best of that group, pointing to both what the Barcelona winger has already done and what he could still become. The comments add another layer of spotlight to the same Lamine Yamal who remained central to Barcelona's late-season storyline.

Why it matters: This is not transfer or injury news, but it is a meaningful endorsement from the player most closely tied to Barcelona's modern standard. It reinforces Yamal's stature as a franchise face even while he recovers from a hamstring injury and Barcelona closes in on the La Liga title, and it can shape how the market and public frame his World Cup buildup with Spain.

What to watch: Watch for any direct response from Yamal or Barcelona and for further updates on his recovery timeline ahead of the World Cup. The next meaningful development is whether his return pace matches the hype Messi just amplified.
