What happened: Pete Alonso was named a finalist for the 2026 Silver Slugger Award on Thursday. Major League Baseball revealed the positional finalists across both leagues following the conclusion of the World Series.

Why it matters: The nomination follows a productive campaign in which Alonso became the first player to lead both the AL and NL in RBIs in separate seasons. Earning the award would add another offensive milestone to his resume after previously being selected to The Sporting News AL All-Star team.

What to watch: Award winners will be revealed when Major League Baseball announces the final Silver Slugger recipients during awards week.
