What happened: Seattle acquired six-time All-Pro left guard Quenton Nelson from Indianapolis in exchange for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick, per Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport. Nelson arrives on an expiring contract as one of 16 players in NFL history, and one of three offensive linemen, to earn a Pro Bowl selection in each of his first eight career seasons.

Why it matters: Adding Nelson aims to curb quarterback Sam Darnold's turnovers under pressure while giving Seattle the flexibility to move Gray Zabel back to his college spot on the right side of the line, per Schefter. At 4-3 and holding the No. 8 seed after a 20-3 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 25, the Seahawks tighten the race behind 6-1 San Francisco.

By the numbers: Among NFL guards with at least 200 snaps this season, Nelson ranks second in offensive grade at 85.7, trailing only Chris Lindstrom (86.7) and sitting ahead of Quinn Meinerz (84.5).

What to watch: Nelson joins Seattle ahead of Week 8, while San Francisco is expected to pursue its own trade move before the Nov. 10 deadline and Indianapolis actively shops defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, per Jordan Schultz.
