What happened: Las Vegas Raiders rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza is undergoing a rigorous transition into Klint Kubiak's offensive system following his selection as the 2026 No. 1 overall pick. Mendoza described the intensive learning process as 'drinking from a firehose,' specifically focusing on mastering under-center snaps and organizing extra walkthroughs with fellow rookies to solidify center-QB exchanges.

Why it matters: The Raiders' ideal scenario involves Fernando Mendoza developing behind veteran Kirk Cousins for the 2026 season. This strategic patience allows the Indiana product to adapt to NFL processing speeds and a more complex pro-style scheme after dominating the college ranks as a Heisman winner.

What to watch: Mendoza will continue to integrate with the second and third-string units during training camp as he competes for the primary backup role.
