What happened: Reid Detmers carried a perfect game into the sixth inning, finishing with seven dominant frames and nine strikeouts in a 3-2 ten-inning win over the Houston Astros. Mike Trout and Logan O'Hoppe provided early power with home runs before Jose Siri secured the series victory with a walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth.

Why it matters: The win represents a rare bright spot for a Los Angeles Angels squad currently sitting at the bottom of the AL West. Detmers' continued development remains a central storyline for the franchise as he recorded his sixth quality start and seventh outing with at least seven strikeouts this season, stabilizing a rotation in need of consistent length.

By the numbers: DETMERS LINE: 7.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 9 K (89 pitches). TROUT: 1-for-4, HR (15). AL WEST STANDINGS: Mariners (36-33), Rangers (33-34), Athletics (33-35), Astros (31-39), Angels (27-42).

What to watch: The Angels host the Tampa Bay Rays for a weekend series starting Friday, while the Astros travel to face the Kansas City Royals.
