What happened: Cleveland Guardians shortstop Brayan Rocchio delivered a highlight-reel defensive play during the eighth inning of Monday's contest against the New York Yankees. With the game tied 5-5 and runners on the corners, Rocchio made a sliding backhand stop, touched second base from the ground, and fired to first from his knees to complete a 6-3 double play.

Why it matters: The sequence prevented the Yankees from taking a late lead and underscored Rocchio’s defensive growth during his breakout 2026 campaign. While Cleveland eventually fell 7-5 in extra innings, the play provided a major boost to the team's ongoing All-Star voting push as he continues to anchor the infield.

What to watch: Cleveland continues its home stand with the series finale against New York on Tuesday night.
