What happened: Houston enters the upcoming season evaluating rookie guard Bruce Thornton and veteran center Oscar Tshiebwe for rotation spots. Thornton joins a crowded backcourt after being drafted in the second round, while Tshiebwe arrives to provide interior depth behind Steven Adams.

Why it matters: Thornton faces competition for minutes alongside Fred VanVleet, Reed Sheppard, Marcus Smart, and Amen Thompson. Tshiebwe offers a traditional rebounding presence for a frontcourt that may reduce its reliance on Clint Capela.

What to watch: Training camp will determine if Thornton's playmaking and defense earn him regular-season action and whether Tshiebwe secures the primary backup center role.
