What happened: Arne Slot said he wants to give Liverpool supporters "much more to be happy about" but admitted his team are not able to do that consistently right now. The comments came after Liverpool's 1-1 home draw with Chelsea on Saturday, May 9, 2026, with fan frustration audible at Anfield and Slot again pointing to the need for improvement next season.

Why it matters: The remarks underline the pressure around Liverpool's finish to the season and Slot's standing heading into the summer. They also extend Slot's public insistence that Liverpool will improve next season as the club tries to secure its place in the Champions League spots.

What to watch: Watch Liverpool's final stretch and whether results calm the noise around Slot before the summer window. Aston Villa's result on May 10 is the next immediate swing factor in the race around Liverpool's league position.
