What happened: James' two-year, $8 million deal includes a player option for the second season. The move became official Sunday, two days after he announced Philadelphia as his destination.

Why it matters: Philadelphia has not won an NBA championship since 1983 or advanced beyond the Eastern Conference semifinals since 2001. James called the move the last decision of his playing career after considering retirement.

By the numbers: James averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists across 60 games in 2025-26. He earned his 22nd consecutive All-Star selection.

What to watch: Attention turns to how Philadelphia incorporates James into its rotation ahead of the 2026-27 season.
