What happened: The Oklahoma City Thunder have advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the second consecutive year, completing a series win over the Los Angeles Lakers to move within one round of a return to the NBA Finals. SportsCenter framed the milestone as back-to-back conference finals appearances for the defending champions. The Thunder closed out the series in Los Angeles after building a commanding lead earlier in the matchup.

Why it matters: Reaching consecutive conference finals validates Oklahoma City's status as the West's standard-bearer and keeps the title defense on track. The run extends a dominant playoff stretch that began with a 6-0 start and includes a 131-108 Game 3 rout that put the series out of reach. For a young core, back-to-back deep playoff runs accelerate the team's championship window and reinforce its place atop the conference hierarchy.

What to watch: Watch for the Western Conference Finals matchup to be set as the other West semifinal concludes, along with updated championship futures and series scheduling. Health of the Thunder's rotation entering the next round will be a key storyline.
