What happened: Sergei Bobrovsky moved from Florida to Toronto, while Jacob Markstrom went from New Jersey to Florida. The New York Rangers rebuilt their second defensive pair with Marcus Pettersson and Sean Durzi and added Pavel Dorofeyev.

Why it matters: Florida added a physical forward without subtracting from its current roster, and Toronto enters 2026-27 with a new starter. New York's overhaul follows a season that ended with the NHL's third-worst record.

By the numbers: Ottawa received three first-round selections and a second-rounder for Brady Tkachuk. Dorofeyev scored 72 goals over the past two seasons; Tkachuk appeared in 72 or fewer games in each of the last two.

What to watch: Training camps open Sept. 16, putting the new goalies and New York's rebuilt defense under their first tests. Connor Hellebuyck and Dylan Larkin remain trade-request cases to watch.
