What happened: Saturday chatter around a linked NHL move pointed away from New Jersey rather than toward a Devils transaction. The club remains on the day's scheduled preseason slate.

Why it matters: That leaves the current roster in place for now and keeps the focus on lineup decisions already in front of the team. In preseason, even light trade noise can shift attention around a club without changing the immediate plan.

What to watch: Watch for whether New Jersey resurfaces in any concrete roster move as the preseason calendar moves toward the opener.
