What happened: Wolverhampton Wanderers have reached a verbal agreement to appoint Cesar Peixoto as their new head coach. The Portuguese manager arrives from Gil Vicente, where he recently completed a standout campaign in Liga Portugal.

Why it matters: Peixoto is tasked with leading Wolves back to the Premier League following a last-place finish in 2026. His appointment follows the club's recent high-profile addition of veteran defender Kieran Trippier to stabilize the squad for the Championship.

By the numbers: Peixoto led Gil Vicente to 6th in the Primeira Liga with 50 points and a 13-11-10 record in 2025-26. Wolves finished their most recent Premier League season with just three wins and 20 total points, setting a club record for their worst-ever top-flight start.

What to watch: Peixoto will oversee a squad overhaul this summer before the Championship season begins in August.
