Why it matters: Four of the league's top five pass-blocking guards are playing on rookie-scale contracts after being selected outside the first round, led by Detroit Lions teammates Mahogany (2024 sixth round) and Ratledge (2025 second round). Nelson, the lone first-round pick in the group, brings an 81.9 pass-blocking grade and an 85.7 overall grade to Seattle after the 2-5 Indianapolis Colts traded him to the Seahawks for 2027 third-round and 2028 fifth-round picks.

By the numbers: 2026 PFF pass-blocking grades vs. NFL Draft slot (per ESPN reference data as of Sept. 29, 2026): Christian Mahogany (83.8 grade; drafted 210th overall in 2024 out of Boston College), Dominick Puni (82.6; 86th overall in 2024 out of Kansas), Quenton Nelson (81.9; 6th overall in 2018 out of Notre Dame), Sam Cosmi (80.6; 51st overall in 2021 out of Texas), and Tate Ratledge (80.4; 57th overall in 2025 out of Georgia). Since entering the NFL in 2018, Nelson has earned eight Pro Bowl selections—tied with Kyle Juszczyk and Travis Kelce for the most in the league over that span—along with three First-Team All-Pro nods (2018-2020) and one Second-Team selection (2021).

What to watch: Nelson is set to debut with Seattle ahead of Week 8 on an expiring contract while the Colts move forward toward a Week 9 matchup with the Cowboys. Mahogany and Ratledge continue anchoring Detroit's interior protection alongside Puni in San Francisco and Cosmi in Washington.
