What happened: Fabrizio Romano reports that Denzel Dumfries has a release clause worth slightly less than €25m this summer. Real Madrid have been informed and are in touch with his camp, with Romano framing it as 'clause or nothing' — no bid or negotiation required to complete a deal. Liverpool had been keen, but the reported departure of manager Arne Slot could change their plans.

Why it matters: A sub-€25m fixed clause gives Real Madrid a clean route to a right-back without protracted negotiation, in a market where comparable full-backs command far more. The same Real Madrid linked with Tottenham's Pedro Porro now has a cheaper, friction-free alternative on the table. For Liverpool, the reported exit of Slot clouds a pursuit they had previously been pushing.

What to watch: Watch whether Real Madrid move to trigger the clause and how Liverpool's managerial situation reshapes their interest.
