What happened: Liverpool have officially confirmed the appointment of Andoni Iraola as their new head coach on a two-year contract. The former Bournemouth manager succeeds Arne Slot after leading the Cherries to a historic 6th-place finish and European qualification.

Why it matters: The appointment signals a radical shift toward a high-pressing 'Bielsista' style, which analysts warn is a massive risk given the recent departures of veteran pillars Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson. Liverpool finished 5th in the 2025/26 Premier League season and must now execute a comprehensive squad overhaul under Iraola's aggressive tactical system.

What to watch: Iraola begins pre-season training in July, with his first match scheduled against Sunderland on July 25.
