What happened: Major League Baseball has suspended reliever Ron Marinaccio for three games and manager Craig Stammen for one game. The discipline stems from a June 13 incident where Marinaccio intentionally hit Gunnar Henderson with a pitch during the ninth inning of a game against the Orioles.

Why it matters: The pitch was deemed retaliation for an earlier play where Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts was hit in the helmet. While Stammen is serving his suspension immediately, Marinaccio has appealed the decision and will remain available to pitch until a final ruling is made.

What to watch: Stammen will serve his ban during Monday's matchup against the Cardinals, with Randy Knorr acting as interim manager. The league is expected to hear Marinaccio's appeal later this week.
