Wire Report IntelligenceUpdated Jul 291 min read

What happened: The 27-year-old spent last season with Miami after four seasons in Detroit. The Lions selected him in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft.

Why it matters: The move gives Tampa Bay an experienced safety as training camp opens. The one-year term limits the commitment beyond the upcoming season.

By the numbers: Melifonwu started eight of 16 games last season, a 50% start rate, and recorded 53 tackles, one interception and one sack.

What to watch: His place in Tampa Bay's safety rotation will come into focus during camp.
