What happened: During Game 5 of the NBA Finals, New York Knicks forward Jeremy Sochan was seen actively reacting to Victor Wembanyama from the sideline. The interaction comes as the Knicks hold a 3-1 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs, with Sochan facing the team that waived him earlier this season.

Why it matters: The dynamic between the former teammates has become a focal point of the series after Sochan provided the Knicks with a 'defensive blueprint' to slow the Spurs star. The Knicks' physical strategy has effectively limited Wembanyama's efficiency, putting New York on the verge of their first championship since 1973. The Knicks previously took a commanding 3-0 lead behind similar defensive intensity.

By the numbers: Wembanyama recorded 3 blocks early in the first quarter of Game 5. The Knicks entered the contest leading the series 3-1. Sochan spent 2.5 seasons in San Antonio before joining New York in February 2026.

What to watch: The Spurs look to extend the series and return to San Antonio, while the Knicks aim to close out the championship on the road.
