What happened: Trent McDuffie holds the highest average annual salary among NFL cornerbacks at $31 million, edging out Sauce Gardner ($30.1M) and Derek Stingley Jr. ($30M). These figures stem from recent extensions locking in these young stars as foundational pieces. No immediate injuries or performance dips noted in recent checks.

Why it matters: Sky-high CB pay reflects the NFL's pass-heavy era, ensuring contenders like the Chiefs, Jets, and Texans maintain elite coverage without free agency risks. Historically, top-paid CBs anchor Super Bowl defenses, as seen with prior leaders like Jalen Ramsey.

What to watch: Monitor these CBs' snap counts and coverage stats in Week 8 games for early returns on their investments amid playoff races.
