What happened: Trick Williams left WWE Backlash still holding the United States Championship after defeating Sami Zayn, according to ESPN's live post and corroborating reactions tied to the event. The match was billed as a rematch after Williams took the title from Zayn at WrestleMania 42, extending their feud on WWE's May 9 premium live event in Tampa.

Why it matters: The result keeps the United States title on Williams at one of WWE's first major stops after WrestleMania, stabilizing that championship picture instead of sending it back to Zayn. It also signals WWE is continuing to build around Williams as a champion while Zayn's next direction becomes a fresh question after another loss in the rivalry.

What to watch: Watch for WWE to set Williams' next challenger coming out of Backlash and to clarify whether Zayn remains in the title mix or moves into a new program. Follow-up fallout on WWE television should define whether this feud is finished.
