Hey … what’s Chase Lucas doing these days? All healed up? Via @VicTafur on X

What happened: San Francisco waived cornerback Jack Jones on Oct. 28 following Sunday's 29-20 loss in Atlanta, prompting beat writer Vic Tafur to raise defensive back Chase Lucas as an option depending on his health status. Jones officially entered unrestricted free agency on Wednesday after clearing room for the DeForest Buckner trade acquisition.

Why it matters: At 6-1, the 49ers reshaped their defensive front with the Buckner addition at the expense of active-roster cornerback depth. Bringing in a healthy depth defensive back such as Lucas would address the vacancy left behind in the secondary.

By the numbers: Per ESPN, Jones recorded 77 tackles and 1 interception across 17 games with the Dolphins in 2025 after the New England Patriots selected him in the fourth round (121st overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Arizona State.

What to watch: San Francisco has until the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline to finalize any additional secondary moves.
