What happened: The San Francisco 49ers are evaluating potential trade deadline additions to offset early-season injuries. The team recently added veteran receiver Brandin Cooks to the practice squad with Demarcus Robinson sidelined. Defensive tackle James Thompson Jr. also suffered a high-ankle sprain, thinning the defensive front.

Why it matters: The injuries test the depth of a roster that has opened the season 2-0. Without reinforcements, San Francisco will rely on expanded roles for KhaDarel Hodge and Jacob Cowing on offense, while Keion White and Jaden Dugger could see more defensive snaps. The defense may also shift to more five-man fronts until the unit gets healthier.

What to watch: The 49ers will monitor Christian Kirk's potential return to practice next week. The team is also awaiting the eventual return of defensive lineman Mykel Williams from a season-ending knee injury.
