What happened: On The Pat McAfee Show, host Pat McAfee and guest AQ Shipley discussed why NFL offenses have leaned heavily into running the football out of 12 and 13 personnel this season. Shipley, the Arizona Cardinals color commentator, told McAfee and co-host AJ Hawk that defenses playing two-high safety shells to contain fast outside receivers leave a light six-man box. According to Shipley, that six-defender front invites offenses to bring back the fullback and check directly to the ground game.

Why it matters: On The Pat McAfee Show, McAfee and Shipley noted that because offenses immediately audible to runs against obvious McAfee pointed to safety Harrison Smith lining up down near the box to convince quarterbacks the defense is not in Shipley added that Wednesday offensive game plans feature roughly 30 checks built on reading whether the defense shows one-high to pass or two-high to run.

What to watch: On The Pat McAfee Show, McAfee asked how long the heavy-rushing approach will last on Sundays, and Shipley said football's cyclical nature means defenses will eventually adjust to stop the run.
