What happened: Head coach Dan Quinn announced Monday that an MRI confirmed the knee injury, prompting Wednesday's formal roster transaction. To fill the vacancy on the 53-man roster, Washington signed wide receiver Van Jefferson, who was elevated earlier in October, from the practice squad.

Why it matters: The move sidelines Washington's primary perimeter target, whom the franchise selected 76th overall out of Ohio State in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. With a single win through six games, the front office is already open to trade offers ahead of the Nov. 10 deadline.

By the numbers: Washington sits at 1-4-1 (16th seed in the NFC, L1 streak) after falling 23-17 at the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 19.

What to watch: Jefferson joins the active receiving rotation immediately as Washington evaluates further roster adjustments before Nov. 10.
