What happened: The Washington Commanders formally moved wide receiver Terry McLaurin to the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday after head coach Dan Quinn announced Monday that an MRI confirmed the knee injury. Washington filled the active roster spot by signing wide receiver Van Jefferson off the practice squad, following his earlier game-day elevation on Oct. 10.

Why it matters: The move sidelines a 2019 third-round cornerstone for a 1-4-1 Washington team sitting 16th in the NFC after a 23-17 loss at San Francisco on Oct. 19. McLaurin had previously missed the Oct. 4 London game against Indianapolis before returning against the New York Giants on Oct. 11. Jefferson, a 2020 second-round draft pick out of Florida who joined the Commanders on Sept. 7, now takes on a permanent roster spot in the receiving corps.

By the numbers: Washington holds a 1-4-1 record (16th seed in the NFC, L1 streak) following its 23-17 loss at San Francisco on Oct. 19, 2026. Drafted 76th overall out of Ohio State in 2019, McLaurin recorded 38 receptions for 582 yards and 3 touchdowns across 10 games in 2025 (per ESPN, as of Sept. 29, 2026). 29, 2026).

What to watch: With McLaurin out for the remainder of the 2026 regular season, Washington enters the final two weeks before the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline already open to trade offers.
