What happened: Jalen Brunson delivered a defiant message to his detractors following the New York Knicks' 2026 NBA Championship victory over the San Antonio Spurs. After being named Finals MVP, Brunson addressed the "1A guy" narrative by stating he has no interest in responding to those who doubted his ability to lead a team to the summit.

Why it matters: The championship validates Brunson’s status as a franchise cornerstone and ends New York's 53-year title drought. By leading New York to the 2026 title, Brunson has cemented his legacy as one of the most successful free-agent acquisitions in NBA history.

What to watch: The Knicks enter the offseason as defending champions for the first time since 1973.
