What happened: The Los Angeles Rams used their two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft decisively. They traded for Kansas City Chiefs CB Trent McDuffie and signed him to an extension for immediate secondary help. Their other selection was Alabama QB Ty Simpson as a long-term prospect.

Why it matters: McDuffie bolsters a Rams defense ranked 18th in pass yards allowed during the 2025 season, aiding a potential playoff run. Simpson addresses QB succession beyond aging Matthew Stafford, reshaping franchise trajectory. Moves lift Rams' Super Bowl odds and NFC West contention amid rivals' drafts.
